Final Morpheus hardware locked in, no plans for wireless version
Sony has finalized the core hardware for its VR headset Project Morpheus, and does not currently plan on releasing a wireless version.
SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida spoke to Gamespot at GDC and confirmed that the core hardware of Morpheus is “pretty much done” but that “lots of tweaks and improvements” are still being made.
A wireless version of Morpheus is not on the cards, according to Yoshida, saying that the VR headset requires a wired connection in order to receive 1080p resolution at 120Hz.
As for games, Yoshida said while all that’s been shown so far are demos, full games taking advantage of the tech are in development at internal studios, some may even be shown at E3 this year.
Sony confirmed at GDC that Morpheus will be in the hands of consumers in the first half of 2016.
